Romo-to-Owens connection goes long way for Dallas Cowboys

The ball leaves Tony Romo's fingers in a tight spiral down the field as Terrell Owens sprints. At the last moment, inches before the goal line, Owens snares the pass with his fingertips. This was at Tuesday's practice inside the Cowboys' practice facility. In last week's preseason victory over the Houston Texans, Romo overthrew a deep ball to an open Owens in the first quarter, forcing the Cowboys to settle for a field goal instead of a 35-yard touchdown. Dallas Cowboys open preseason against Chargers

The Governor's Cup will be played in front of a national television audience on CBS, when the Dallas Cowboys play Houston at Texas Stadium on Aug. 22. The Cowboys' first two preseason games will be a reunion of sorts for coach Wade Phillips. The Cowboys open their preseason at San Diego on Aug. 9 and face at Denver on Aug. 16 or 17.

Phillips, a former Chargers defensive coordinator, also had a stint as head coach with the Broncos. The Cowboys will hold training camp in Oxnard, Calif., at the end of July and practice against the Broncos in Englewood, Colo., prior to the teams' preseason meeting. The Cowboys will then return to Valley Ranch for the remainder of training camp. Continue
